GPS Navigation in Thailand

Garmin GPS 10

Garmin GPS 10

I’m using my QTEK S200 in combination with a Garmin GPS 10 when I am on the road somewhere in Thailand. The last map i had installed on it was quite inaccurate. My Home wasn’t on it. My Girlfriend’s Home wasn’t on it. Many things were not on the map. About two weeks ago I updated the map to TSM Version 8 and since then, almost everything I need shows up.

For me, this combination - the S200 & the GPS - is like playing a game on a console. I really spend hours everyday to play around with it, look if various places are on the map, compare the position with Google Maps Mobile, and, and, and…

Oh, yes, Geocaching. Spend a lot of my time with it. TrackMe, also a cool application. GPSToday, shows the nearest contact from your address book and other information on your today screen.

For the navigation and routing part I’m using Garmin Mobile XT. So far i have no problems with the software on my S200 (Garmin Que 2.90 always freezed my device). It runs just fine and does the job very accurate. My weekly travels to & around Bangkok are always without a hassle. Recalculating of routes are quick.

I will soon travel again to Si Songkhram and test this gadget on ‘not so common’ locations. I will report on this later.

Oh yes, if you do visa runs : Ban Laem Checkpoint is on the map & the routing is accurate…
